Moonlight Rest 12 x 14 It is late winter, and the two have just emerged from underground. Possibly she is Persephone, he, Orpheus; their journey to the upper world has been successful. Possibly she is Ariadne, he, Theseus, and her hair, like the grassy hillside, the strands of many paths of his maze; touching her hair has brought them to the upper word.Still partially hidden in the ground, still partially in winter's dark, they rest in moonlight. Grass-elves, or perhaps Leszi, Leshii (LESH-ee), dance in celebration of the springtime renewal to come, of this arduous journey. |

Winter 16 x 20 A good winter in the mountains; snow has fallen and lies deep and wet over thirsty roots. Two rabbits glean what they can from weed seeds blown atop the snow layer. It is late afternoon, chilly, with only an hour or so of sun through the thinning clouds. Just enough time to eat before snuggling back down into burrow's warmth against the frozen night.

Summer Aspens 9 x 12 Two Bluejays decided to explore these old Aspen trees in early July. |
A whole flock of bluebirds live outside the confines of this picture; they are making their third families of the season this year; they are very happy in this particular yard, where they are provided with worms regularly, and water, and a peach tree has excellent perches. All in all, I believe they are having the best of times.

Wild animals attracted to the calm light
of an autumn aspen treelet; it is evening in the forest, and the pale yellow leaves glow as a delicate fire in the fading light. The treetrunks seem to be the bars of a cage that no longer contains the animals. Maybe the trees mark a boundary between the dark of isolation and the light of companionship, or between ignorance and awareness, or ... what do you think? |
